<p>Nos complace presentar esta breve obra de Juan Calvino, que en sus orígenes fuera titulada <i>De vita hominis christiani</i> en latín y <i>De la vie de l'homme chrétien</i> en francés. La presente edición es una traducción completamente nueva y que proviene de la nueva edición castellana de la <i>Institución de la religión cristiana</i> (III, vi-x, Libros Desafío, 2011). <i>De la vida del cristiano</i> nos abre una ventana hacia una espiritualidad que nos mantiene con los ojos bien puestos en Jesús pero con los pies plantados en tierra, espiritualidad que contrasta con aquellas que enfatizan la meditación, la mística y el escapismo terrenal. «El Señor nos ha puesto donde tenemos que estar hasta que nos vuelva a llamar», nos dice Calvino. Esta obra ejerció una buena influencia en los últimos 500 años en el mundo anglosajón y, en especial, en los Países Bajos. Sin embargo, en el orbe hispano, su influencia ha sido mínima. Rogamos, pues, que nuestro Dios Todopoderoso pueda usar esta breve obra para refrescar las mentes y animar la vocación cristiana de los creyentes y alcanzar con su gracia a los que no creen.</p><p>We are pleased to present this brief work by John Calvin, originally titled <i>De vita hominis christiani</i> in Latin and <i>De la vie de l'homme chrétien</i> in French. This edition is a completely new translation derived from the new Spanish edition of the <i>Institutes of the Christian Religion</i> (III, vi-x, Libros Desafío, 2011). <i>On the Christian Life</i> opens a window onto a spirituality that keeps our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus while our feet remain planted on the ground, a spirituality that contrasts with those emphasizing meditation, mysticism and earthly escapism. "The Lord has placed us where we must be until He calls us again," Calvin tells us. This work exercised a strong influence over the past 500 years in the English-speaking world and especially in the Netherlands. However, in the Spanish-speaking world its influence has been minimal. We pray, therefore, that our Almighty God may use this brief work to refresh minds, encourage the Christian vocation of believers and reach unbelievers with His grace.</p>
